Ayodhya is the first among Saptapuri--the seven Mokshadayini or salvation giving cities around India. It is the base for one of the two epics, the two Itihasa from India--Rayamana. The word Ayodhya is a derivative of the Sanskrit verb yudh, to fight, to wage war and with a is the negative prefix; it means invincible as mentioned in the Atharvaveda, which referes it as unconquerable city of Gods.
